Dungeon synth is the label used repeatedly in descriptions of Varkana and I would not disagree. However, I would add that this music sits equally well alongside that of artists from the Ghost Box label. The bonus for me is that Varkana's work lacks the arch self-awareness that can be the worst aspect of the hauntology genre. It's sincere and bears repeated listening. owlson

Dark, modern dungeon synth that is almost violent at times - a bleak undercurrent exists to the original and creative melodies. Truly unique in a cluttered genre. Michael

Rite is a "nice" Dungeon Synth album. Nothing evil or menacing or Black Metallish about it. Rite sounds simpler/minimalistic and different compared to successive albums (especially 2020's Cosmic Terror).
Cons: Some of the tracks are saturated at the low-end (huge bass distortion), You can hear that on Bandcamp, so no surprises. John Gaunt
